NEWTON TRAILER CENTRE

Bateson Trailers

Established in 1934, Bateson has manufactured many a thousand trailers for various applications. They are large enough to manufacture big quantities of quality trailers at competitive prices and small enough to modify designs and produce special trailers based on over 100 standard models.

Our design experience, utilizing 3D CAD and modern production machinery including laser cutting, CNC steel forming and robot welding has enabled us to manufacture an extensive range of trailers that combine exceptional strength with low unladen weight and excellent stable towing characteristics.

All trailers are manufactured to comply with the latest European regulations and have been inspected by the VCA and granted European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. A certificate of conformity is supplied free with every trailer to permit registration in all European countries (registration is not required in the UK).

Platform Trailers

Platform trailers are manufactured in three weight ranges: 2 tons, 2.6 tons, and 3.5 tons, with body lengths from 2.5 metres to 5 metres and up to 7 metres as specials. Standard widths are 1.5, 1.8, and 2 metres, but they can be manufactured to 2.1, 2.3, and up to a maximum of 2.5 metres wide. Trailers that are 4.3 metres and longer are available with a sloping beaver tail or full hydraulic tilt and ramp door.

Trailer chassis are welded in one piece and hot-dipped galvanised. They have a phenol-coated plywood floor with level side rails and sockets for a removable headboard, centre posts, and rear corner posts. Standard specification includes full EU lighting, including reversing lamps and front markers.

Amber side marker lamps are fitted on trailers 5 metres long and larger. Trailers over 2.1 metres wide also have extra rear outline lights. Mudguards, mud flaps, a spare wheel, and a jockey wheel are also standard.

The PF models of Bateson platform trailers are available in all the standard body sizes but with lower chassis and fitted with 195 x 10 wheels and tyres, allowing the lowest possible deck height of 550 mm.

They are available with twin axles at 2600kg or three axles at 3500kg, similar to our successful PT hydraulic tilt models. All models can be fitted with optional equipment, as listed, to suit your exact application at a competitive price.

General Purpose Trailers

Our range of general-purpose trailers has been designed to offer maximum strength with a low unladen weight, a modern appearance, and safe, stable towing characteristics.

All models have a hot-dipped galvanised steel chassis with 2mm thick pre-galvanised steel sides 300mm deep and an 18mm phenol-coated non-slip plywood floor.

The independent rubber suspension axles have auto-reversing brakes operated by a cast steel hydraulic damped overrun coupling with a power-assisted hand brake and integral jockey wheel. Full road lights are fitted, and the specially designed damage-resistant mudguards on twin-axle models have aluminium tread-plate ‘stand-on’ tops.

As general-purpose trailer manufacturers, all of our trailers are available with a range of optional equipment to suit many applications, including ramp tail doors and mesh extension sides. However, extra equipment will increase the unladen weight and reduce the payload.

When selecting a trailer, it is essential to check that the towing vehicle has an adequate towing capacity and that the weights are within the permitted gross train weights shown on the vehicle plate when used with a commercial vehicle.

Plant Trailers

Heavy-duty plant trailers are available in two weight ranges: 2.6 tonnes and the maximum permitted weight, 3.5 tonnes; they are available in three body lengths: 2.5m, 3m, and 3.6m (approx. 8’, 10’, and 12’), and four widths: 4’ 5’, 5’6”, and 6’.

All trailers are available with a full ramp door and an extended drawbar with a high bucket carrier for mini diggers (26MD and 35MD) or with removable ramps and partial floors to carry tracked machines up to 2.9 tonnes.

Trailers fitted with a hydraulic tilt and ramp door are designed to provide a low approach angle needed for scissor lifts and similar machines.

Bespoke plant trailers are available for attaching fixed plants, generators, pumps, compressors, etc. Please let us quote for your requirements and quantities.

All 26 and 35 trailers have 300mm deep, 3mm thick solid steel sides and welded tread plate steel mudguards with load securing points. They also have an 18 mm phenol-coated non-slip floor, full road lights and outline markers where required, a heavy-duty jockey wheel, and an interchangeable number plate holder. A spare wheel and carrier are optional extras on all this range to reduce the unladen weight and maximise the payload.

Beavertail Trailers

Beaver tail transporter trailers are manufactured in 3 weight ranges, 2 tonne, 2.6 tonne and 3.5 tonne gross and three lengths approx.. 14’, 16’ and 18’. All are supplied with 8’ long steel loading ramps and can be fitted with front drive-over ramps that slide out from under the body. The photos shown compare the rear ramp approach angles. The nearest is a hydraulic tilt trailer PT56 with standard slide-in ramps, the next uses low approach extension blocks, and the far trailer is a 355B with standard 8’ ramps.

Standard specification includes laser-cut and punched outer floor sections with load strapping points, full road lights, front jockey wheel, spare wheel and carrier, rear loading legs, and slide-in 8’ steel loading ramps. A hand winch is standard unless drive-over ramps are required, and a fold-over jockey wheel is also fitted.

Tipper Trailers

We manufacture a range of 4 hydraulic tipping trailers; the smallest, the 720H, does not have brakes and can be seen in the un-braked trailer section. Model 202H has a gross weight of 2000kg and can be easily tipped manually, avoiding the cost and complexity of electric tipping equipment.

Models 263H, at 2600kg, and 353H, at 3500kg, are both 3 metres long and are supplied with a 12v pump and battery box as standard. All models have 30cm steel sides as standard and can be fitted with mesh extension sides and rear gates as an option.

We do not manufacture a larger tipping trailer on safety grounds; they will hold more material than their weight capacity, could be top-heavy when tipped, and could be very back-heavy, lifting the rear of the towing vehicle when tipped.

Unbraked Trailers

Trailers do not have to be fitted with brakes until the gross weight exceeds 750 kg, or if the weight of the trailer and load does not exceed half the weight of the towing vehicle. This has many benefits, the trailer cost is much less and maintenance is greatly reduced.

Most small trailers available are of the camping trailer type and do not stand up to commercial applications. Our platform trailers 520, 720 and 72H are manufactured, using many of the same materials and to the same standard as our 3500 kg trailers. The independent rubber suspension axles on all models use sealed bearing hubs with a 1300 kg capacity and never need adjustment.

New on this range is the lockable cast coupling which now has an extended handle making it easy to operate in awkward places often found on quad bike couplings and under door mounted spare wheels.

B53, B64, B84, and B85 are fabricated from pre-galvanised, heavy duty, 2 mm thick steel. Laser cut, punched and formed on the latest CNC machines. All trailers are available with a range of options making them suitable for a large variety of applications.

Horsebox Trailers

Our design experience utilising the latest durable materials has enabled us to produce a stylish range of horsebox trailers, which combine low unladen weight, exceptional strength, good aerodynamics and stable towing characteristics.

The chassis and frames are all hot dipped galvanised steel with a semi-monocoque construction, allowing a low floor height and a lower centre of gravity than our competitors, also providing increased ground clearance, less unladen weight and an extra 3” headroom within the same overall height.
All trailers have Avonride soft ride fully independent rubber suspension with automatic reversing brakes and a hydraulically damped hitch with a power-assisted handbrake, a front telescopic jockey wheel, and a spare wheel.

Livestock Trailers

Bateson Livestock Trailers have been in production for over 70 years, during which time they have developed continuously to keep abreast of ever-changing legislation regarding motor vehicles and the transport of animals.

We have kept the trailers as simple and light as possible without sacrificing strength to cope with the harsh environment in which they may operate.

All standard models of our livestock trailers have a hot-dipped galvanised chassis and are panelled with 2 mm toughened alloy sides and a heat-reflecting, plastic-coated galvanised steel roof. Two rows of recessed vent channels are fitted with punched holes, allowing permanent ventilation, minimising water ingress, and eliminating the possibility of trapping animals.

Eurostock trailers are built to meet the demands of various transport needs, offering a range of options to suit different weight and size requirements. Available in numerous size and weight options, these trailers are versatile for carrying everything from small machinery to larger loads.

Box Van Trailers

Our range of van trailers has been developed over many years, with different models added in response to customers’ requests. A trailer of this type will double a van’s capacity, or it can even be replaced by towing a car or 4 x 4. There is no road tax or M.O.T., offering a very economical method of transporting goods. We have a range of sizes and capacities to suit most towing vehicles.

The newest and smallest all-glass fibre unbraked 120V looks excellent and has many uses, from carrying extra luggage with taxis, disco and band equipment to racing motorcycles.

The larger trailers have overrun brakes from 1300 kg to 3.5 tons gross weight. Using the latest technology and materials has resulted in a trailer offering a smart, modern appearance with good aerodynamics and low unladen weight. The chassis are all galvanised and fitted with independent rubber suspension axles.

Transporter Trailers

The Bateson range of hydraulic tilt car transporter trailers has proved very popular and successful for many years. The trailer is fully welded from 2.5 mm steel sheet and hot rolled sections, then hot dipped galvanised in one piece, providing an extremely strong trailer with a low unladen weight.

All models have a full floor panelled with 18mm phenol ply that tilts back hydraulically to provide a low approach angle. This enables vehicles with front spoilers and low ground clearance to be loaded with ease.

The range comprises three models: the lightest 22-15 auto transporter trailer, with a capacity of 1560kg; the most popular 27-16, which now has a carrying capacity of 2035kg, is suitable for most cars and light commercial vehicles; and the largest 35-16, which has a capacity of 2670kg and is suitable for larger 4x4s, plant, and machinery.

All models are supplied with an adjustable front wheel chock, 12 securing points, a hand winch and a spare wheel.

Tiltbed Trailers

Bateson hydraulic tilt trailers have been designed to transport many types of vehicles and machinery. The low platform and shallow approach angle allow equipment with a minimum ground clearance or a long front overhang to be loaded quickly.

They are available in three types: the GT models, which are single-axle low-loading general-purpose trailers suitable for all types of horticultural and construction equipment; the AT range, which are twin-axle auto-tilt platform trailers suitable for machines and vehicles weighing up to 2 tons; and the versatile PT range of tilting platform trailers, which are available with twin or triple axles up to 3500kg gross weight.

With the introduction of EU-type approval, it is often uneconomic for companies to manufacture their own trailer chassis for fixed equipment, generators, compressors, pumps, tanks, etc.

Over the years, Bateson Trailers has manufactured hundreds of special trailers individually designed to meet customers’ specific requirements. We have vast experience and can advise on the viability of any particular project with full European-type approval.

With over 100 standard models, if we do not have a standard product, we can quote for most modifications. We will consider complete specials if sufficient quantities cover the design and development costs.
